Fire in the northern sky

Last night I went to the Sage Gateshead to see the Adverse Camber production of 'Fire In The Northern Sky', epic tales from the Kalevala from the Finnish tradition.  Accompanied by music from the fantastic Finnish Trio, Suunta, storyteller, Nick Hennerssey, transported us back to the origins of the world and then on through its many domains and elements.  Epic heroes exploring land and sea, the realms of the dead and more, in search of magic, love and adventure in a world forged in fire.  Nick, one of the UKs leading storytellers, combines his words with a powerful physicality that makes this show compelling, exciting and brilliant.  The music of Suunta was incredibly beautiful, haunting and uplifting.  This show was fabulously bonkers,in a wonderfully Finnish way, and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I went to see it the night before in Ilkley. Let's hope they bring it back - I want to take so many people to see one of the most wonderful and spell binding performances I have ever seen.
