What better way to kick start a project than with a good story to bring the subject to life? I tell stories to enhance cross curriculum learning. Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Saxons, Victorians up to and including modern day. I take historic fact, folk and mythical stories, and weave them together into sessions that excite and stimulate the pupils. Each session also contains a short discussion on the subject matter which helps to contextualise the stories that follow and allows the children to show me how much they may already know.
Storytelling shows for schools
I am currently offering two storytelling shows to schools. First and foremost, 'The Spark and the Fury', a gritty story that explores the causes of WW1 looks at life in the trenches. This story can be accompanied by a drama workshop.

The Spark and the Fury'We invited Gary into school to meet with our Year 8 learners as part of our annual Literature Festival. In order to coincide with the 100th anniversary of World War One. When the workshop was delivered, I was overwhelmed at how knowledgeable Gary was about particular subjects and how well he engaged with our learners. The workshop itself was very useful as it helped our learners to get a better understanding of the plight of the Soldiers during WW1 and it ended with our learners charging into battle which was absolutely fantastic to watch. I would have no hesitation in recommending Gary to any school as he was so approachable and had some fascinating ideas about how to work with our learners. Rachel Harrison.
